AGM

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING  17 July 2012

The AGM of the Biddenham Gardeners’ Association was held on Tuesday 17 July 2012.

The Chairperson, Mary Johnston,  reported that the Association was thriving. We had a series of excellent speakers and attendance increased throughout the year reaching a peak of around 90 for the meeting where Christine Walkden, the TV gardening  presenter was the speaker.

The treasurer reported a balance of £1,177 which was a reduction of £284 on the previous year. Expenditure had exceeded income largely because of increased fees charged by speakers and an increase in their travel costs. To meet this increased expenditure an increase in the meeting entry charge from £2.50 to £3 was proposed and carried.

In the course of the election of officers Mary told the meeting that, with immediate effect, she would be standing down as chairperson and Ken would also resign from the committee.

The Officers and Committee were then elected en bloc as follow:

Chairperson                   Jeremy Arthern

Secretary                         Gloria Clarke.

Treasurer                        Lynne Vaughan

Programme Secretary  Peter Carter

Committee                      Linda Truscott, Marie Willis & Ron Bessey

A small presentation was made to Mary and, on behalf of the BGA, Jeremy Arthern thanked Mary for her leadership over many years. The current strength of the Association owed a lot to her commitment and hardwork.

The official business was followed by a talk by Peter Ledger about the development of his craft business making jewellery sold on behalf of the Sue Ryder hospice at St John’s Moggerhanger. Peter and his wife Pauline then did brisk business with the extensive range of jewellery  they had brought with them.

Excellent food and beverages  were available at the conclusion of the meeting, these were very much enjoyed by all.
