Wrest Park – 300 years of Garden History

On a chilly, windswept evening in November our spirits were lifted by our speaker Dr Twigs Way.  Twigs is a professional garden historian, researcher and author, well known to many members of the Gardeners’ Association.  For nearly 700 years the Wrest estate, near Silsoe, was home to one of the leading aristocratic families in the country, the Greys.  Each generation, depending on their available money at the time, left their mark on the estate.  Twigs has worked with English Heritage on the diaries and letters of Jemina Marchioness Grey and her daughter Amabel as part of the research and renovation project of Wrest Park so we were really looking forward to discovering more about the history of this estate …
