Outing to Wassledine

Thursday 23rd May

5X4A1540eFor our first outing of 2013, members of the BGA travelled locally to Gravenhurst to visit Wassledine farm, and meet with Jane and Gay Lambourne. Guy came to Biddenham last year and gave an interesting talk about their eco friendly farm and his venture in growing Willow & Hazel – our visit put things very much into perspective. Starting with a walk thru ‘Hill Close’ meadow towards ‘Meppershall field’ where ‘right on queue’ we were joined by Jane & Guys Red Poll cattle. Jane talked about the history of the pollarded 200+ year old Ash tree before we made our way into ‘Wassledine’ field where Guy grows his willow, then up Gravelpit field to the Barn and refreshments.

  1. We very much enjoyed welcoming members of the Biddenham Association to our small farm in Gravenhurst. We will be in touch later in the year to talk about the possibility of collective purchase and delivery of bean poles and pea sticks next spring.
